Flu and Covid Vaccination Clinics

BACK TO MAIN INDEX

At Havens Health, we have been busy planning our Flu and COVID vaccine clinics this autumn / winter.

We have put together a list of questions and answers that you may find helpful, because we can only fit limited information on a text message, and we might be able to save you a phone call by answering your question already. Please have a look through by clicking on the boxes to reveal the answers below.

If there is anything that you are still unsure of, please contact our Reception team.

Thank you to all our patients who continue to support us by having your vaccinations here. We look forward to seeing those who have booked an appointment soon!

Frequently Asked Questions

Why have I been sent an invitation?

We have found that there is something on your record that shows us that you can have a vaccine. It could be your age, a condition you have or something else

I don’t want either vaccines, can you stop sending me invites?

Sure, we can add a ‘declined’ code to your record, this will stop us from inviting you again for this season. We may still invite you next year though, in case you have changed your mind

I can’t use the booking link on my phone. Can I call you?

Yes of course, but we would prefer if you can call our Reception Team in the afternoon if that is possible. Our phone number is 01273 588200

I haven’t received an invitation, does that mean I can’t have one?

Not necessarily, it might be that we don’t have your up to date contact details or we haven’t got around to you yet. If you think you should have one, please contact our Reception team and ask them to check. They might need to check with a Nurse or Doctor and get back to you

Why do I keep receiving invitations on my NHS App or text messages?

You may receive multiple invites from us and from NHS England. Any messages from us should say Havens Health on them, but you can ask us if you are not sure

What dates are your vaccinations on?

The main dates will be across multiple Saturdays in October and November. There will also be a Wednesday clinic for those who can’t make it on a weekend. Young children and pregnant women will be contacted in September

Should I get it done with you or with a Pharmacy?

The choice is yours! We do spend a lot of time each year planning and preparing for our vaccination clinics, so we would very much love to see you all here supporting us. We also plan our clinics to be at the optimal time of year for protection

What can I do to help?

Please just turn up on the day you have a booked appointment. Please try to stick to your allotted time. Stay hydrated and wear comfortable clothing that allows access to your upper arms

Is it free?

Yes, both Flu and COVID vaccines are free

How long does it take?

Overall, it shouldn’t take any longer than a standard appointment

Who is recommended to be vaccinated?

The recommendation is often based on either your age or if you have certain medical conditions, but there is a lot more in between, and the criteria can change. If you are unsure, it is best to contact us to check or check the NHS.UK website

I’m not sure if I want one. Is there someone I can speak to about my concerns?

If you would prefer to speak to someone to help you decide if you want to have a vaccine or not, please book an appointment with a Nurse beforehand. The Vaccination clinics on Saturdays run quite quickly, so we won’t have enough time then to discuss concerns

Is it safe to have both Flu and COVID vaccines at the same time?

Yes, it is both safe and effective, and done under national guidance. We will ask you some questions on the day to make sure you are feeling well and fit enough to have either vaccine or both

Do I have to have both Flu and COVID vaccines, what if I only want one of them?

It is your choice, we won’t pressure you to have both vaccines if you only want one or the other and you meet the criteria

What is the best time to get vaccinated for protection?

Research tells us that the best time to receive a vaccine for winter Flu protection is between the months of October and December every year

I can’t leave the house. Can someone come out to vaccinate me?

We are aware that some of our patients are unable to leave their home. We will arrange home visits for you, but we do not have the exact dates yet. If you are able to get transport to the surgery please try to attend one of our clinics if you can

Do I need to turn up at my exact appointment time?

The appointment times are for us to keep track of how many patients we can safely vaccinate in a day, so we won’t turn you away if you are early or late. You may have to wait a little bit if it is a busy time

What do I do if I’m feeling ill on the day?

Please do not come in if you are feeling ill. We cannot vaccinate you until you have recovered

Does being vaccinated stop me from getting ill from Flu or COVID?

It will help to reduce your risk of becoming so ill that you need to go to Hospital. Being vaccinated doesn’t necessarily stop you from getting ill though.
The Flu vaccine protects from 3 strains of Flu, which have been found to potentially problematic in the coming Flu season

Does being vaccinated stop me from spreading Flu or COVID?

After you have been vaccinated, you can still pass on other cold and Flu viruses to other people

Can I choose to have a COVID vaccine made by my preferred manufacturer?

Unfortunately, due to circumstances out of our control, we cannot promise to offer a choice of manufacturers for the COVID vaccine

Do the vaccines contain gelatine?

The Flu nasal spray vaccine has traces of highly processed porcine gelatine. Please ask for an alternative if you do not want your child to have this vaccine, as we can offer an alternative. There is further information in the links at the bottom of this page.
